About
Hoshei is a clothing practice working with pre-owned garments and materials.
Beginning with what already exists, each piece develops from the qualities, lived life, and limitations of its materials.
Rather than searching for perfect materials, Hoshei works with what is available. Existing structures become the starting point of the design process, and limitations become part of the design itself.
We are interested in refinement, irregularity, and character. In garments that ask to be looked at a little longer.
Nothing is discarded before it is questioned.
The material sets the terms.
Founded in Finland in 2025 by Hilma Heinonen.
Hilma studied fashion design after growing up in the world of dance, where she spent years observing bodies in movement. It shaped the way she looks at clothing: through posture, proportion, movement, and the relationship between a garment and the body wearing it.
She became increasingly interested in things that don't settle easily; grey areas, discomfort, contradiction, and forms of beauty that are not immediately familiar.
Hoshei grew from that way of looking.
Custom orders are welcome. If a garment you liked wasn't available in your size or colour, get in touch. The material will still have the final say.
Care
Frequent washing is rarely necessary.
Most garments benefit from air, rest, and local cleaning rather than repeated laundering.
Wool often refreshes naturally when aired outdoors.
For odours: seal the garment in a bag and leave it in the freezer overnight.
Each piece includes individual care instructions and is either hand washable or dry clean only.
Care labels are a guide, not always a rule. Many garments marked dry clean only can be gently hand washed or washed on a delicate cycle from time to time,
depending on their material and construction. Leather and particularly delicate garments should always be professionally cleaned.
Store garments with care. Allow them space. Repair if needed.
A garment should carry time.
